Holy Crap, this Wake Forest vs FSU game is ugly…..!!!!!! FSU just threw two interceptions in a row!!! There is less than three minutes in the fourth quarter. Wake Forest can’t seem to make a field go either. The best kicker in the country has missed three FG this game. It’s crazy.
Anyway, I’m proud NC State played so well today. I’m not sure where it came from, but they did good against ECU. ECU wasn’t playing all that well, but it was a pretty good game.
The App St. vs JMU game just ended. App lost 32-35. That was a crazy game as well. App was leading 21-0 at halftime. I thought the game would be close, but after seeing the first half, I was shocked. The second half of the game was how I expected it to be.
I think App will still be fine this season. I would bet good money they will play JMU in the playoffs again. Hey, Wake Forset made a FG! 12-3, lol. But yeah, as long as App beats them in the playoffs, I’ll be happy.
They are looking pretty good this season. I think they have another chance to do it again. Last season I didn’t think they would do it, but they proved me wrong. <3
I wonder what are the chances of this actually happening: WH has to keep files. They’ve already destroyed a lot of things. When they were being investigated about DA firings, they did not have emails and other files.
Sarah Palin is starting to get annoying. The way she speaks and how she does not know, or appear, to know much. I have never had much faith in the American people, but hopefully they will pay attention to things. If McCain wins, he can think white middle-aged women. But it is still weeks away, so who knows.
This site is pretty funny, much like icanhascheezeburger:
Of course, it is politics and sports that brings me back here.
I’m a surprised that McCain picked Palin, but I, like most everyone else, did not know who he would pick as VP. When McCain has a heart attack, I’d hate to have her as President. I guess he felt he had to pull out all the stops and take a big risk. I think it’s a smart move in one regard to pick a woman VP, espeically when Obama did not pick one. But man, everything else just does not seem to make sense.
If you are wondering where I’ve been the last part of the summer, I’ll shed some light on what I’ve been up to. A lot of work, some vacations and breaks, and my grandfather passed away last Tuesday. Life = change, doesn’t it? More on the way soon.
Cheer on Appalachian tomorrow at 5pm 11am, they take on LSU. I think we’ll do good if we score half the points they do. But what do I know?
I apologize for not talking about more things than football.
After next Friday night, I won’t be talking about football as much. Thankfully, I still get to this week!
Appalachian just finished playing in the semi-finals, and yay! they won
55-35 against Richmond College. You can check out the box score here and they will eventually write a game recap.
It wasn’t as a close game as some in the recent past but I did have moments when I was uneasy. It’s pretty exciting for App to be going to their third straight championship football game. Only four other teams in the FCS have accomplished that, but none of those won their third game. Hopefully, Appalachian can be the first. It would be awesome to win three in a row and have a t-shirt with that information on it.
The game will again be on ESPN2 at 8pm next Friday night.
In other news, things have been going well. I spent most of this week at a conference for work. We put on the first North Carolina Summit on Youth and Families. It’s pretty neat and I definitely learned a lot about this wonderful state.
I went Christmas shopping this afternoon and got myself a gift.
They are similar to these Ray-Ban’s
I have yet to ware them out in the sun though, so I’m not sure how well I will like them in that regard. Two additional shoppers in the store helped me pick them out, lol. One was a little older and had an adorable little baby girl in her stroller and the other was in high school, maybe. But man, I know her from somewhere. I have seen her before but I just can’t remember where. It bugs me. But anyway, after twenty minutes in the store, I decided on some shades. It’s a good thing to, because my Oakley’s definitely showed some age. It was getting semi-distracting to look through them because of the scratches.
Ok, I need some rest. The in-laws and additional people are coming to the house Sunday and I need to clean up. Yay for the holidays
I forgot to mention, Wofford won their football game today against Montana, by one point. Yeah, it was close as well. Montana was 11-0 going into the game, but apparently they had a cupcake schedule all year. Who knows, today was my first time watching them play (Thanks Tral!) Wofford got lucky though at the end (just like App, who got a near the end zone late game turnover by the other team). Montana had a chance to win it in the last few seconds with a field goal, but their kicker missed it.
Goodness, Duke just almost got two turnovers in a row. They had two already from UNC but man, I’m starting to like UNC’s QB. Keep sucking Yates. UNC fans are acting like it’s a big game because it’s so close. That would be funny as crap if “higher than you no matter what” UNC lost to a Duke team that barely won one game this season. I would love it and I would die a happy man.
Wofford advance to the second round of the playoffs too. It would be wonderful it App and Wofford met again, granted, App better win this time time. If both App and Wofford win their next games, they meet for the semi-finals. Should be a good game, but I might be regretting this post in a few weeks. ESPN needs to start giving us some respect.
Ahahahaha, I love seeing Duke football beating up on UNC. That’s what I get for growing up in this region, I guess.
When I arrived at school, everyone was still involved in the day activity: AppalachLAN VIII. While in college, I had a large circle of friends who all played video games. A few of them, well mainly one, took the initiative to try to start a club on campus based around gaming, every kind of gaming. He was smart and proposed it as a way to let gamers meet in person instead of just over the internet. The university must have liked it and the Gaming Club came into existence and still holds strong today.
Every semester, the club holds two or three large LAN (local area network) events where people from across the southeast, northeast, and sometimes Canada, gather to have a good time and meet people in real life.
When I arrived, the LAN was beginning to wrap up. I hung out for a while, helped people pack up, grabbed some food, and then headed to the after party. One of the girls in the club is very special to us all because she loves to have a ton of people over to have a good time, and she lets some of us sleep at her place as well. We love her very much for this. Thank you Whitney
Once we arrived at Whit’s, there was already a ton of people their and of course, 95% of them were males, but hey, we are used to it. We have some toke core females and every-now-and-then we have one that shows up, whom may or may not be wearing a bikini she made. It was spectacularly nice.
Anyway, we all had a marvelous time and eventually got to bed around 4 in the morning. We cooked breakfast once we all arose, hung out some more, drove to the top of a near by mountain, hung out and enjoyed the view, ate dinner and went bowling, then the majority of us left, for the next day was Monday, the start of the work week.
I had to get up extra early Monday morning because I had a golf tournament that day. After the wonderful weekend, 5 am was a very rude awakening. I made it out to the course at 7 to help set up and get ready for registration. Most of the golfers showed up and everything went off with out a glitch. It was quiet nice and the course was beautiful. Million dollar homes lined the 27 hole course. I was very impressed.
I received a phone call while out at the course asking if I would like to go to the beach for the night. Luckily I have extremely good and understanding bosses. I had already planned on taking Wednesday of that week off to go to Camp Lejeune, now I needed Tuesday and Wednesday off. I was told to go and have a good time because I had done a job well done with setting up the golf tournament. Sweet.
So, I’m currently not sure how I am going to lay out the tales of the last week + of my life. I think I will have to split this entry into a few posts.
My previous post showed excitement for a person named Steve, who was coming to visit. I met Steve through a few friends at university. Funny thing is; he is from Canada.
This was his second trip to North Carolina, he came and visited us a year and a half ago, in March.
Steve flew into town last Thursday evening. A friend and I went to the airport to pick him up, not knowing which flight he was coming in on or the terminal, but thanks to some smarts and a bit of luck, we found him without any problems. When we left the airport with the Canadian, we went to our friend mom’s house where she cooked a bunch of us dinner. It was quite scrumptious. We hung out for a while there, then went and got ice cream (apparently they do not have extra good chocolate milkshakes in Canada like they do down here). After ice cream and hanging out, we broke apart to our respective residences to get some sleep because all of us had to work the next day.
The next time I saw the Canadian was Friday evening. A group of us (8) attended the Carolina Hurricanes hockey game, to see them lose horribly 7-4. This season, it’s normally been the other way around, but oh well. They ended up winning Saturday night 8-3. We also had some others from out of town come to the game. Despite the loss, it was a lot of fun.
After the game, some of the group left to travel to where most of us went/go to college. I went home and went to bed because I had to get up early the next morning to travel to volunteer at a Girl Scout camp in the mountains of NC; something I used to do a lot while in college.
I arrived at the camp Saturday around lunch time, which was perfect timing. Everyone had just made it back to the main area to eat lunch. It was very nice to see everyone. I hadn’t seen most of them for a couple of months. It was nice to meet the new pledges as well.
After we all ate, we went back to work. I worked on the splitting/stacking/chopping/unloading wood team. I consider myself a semi-professional when it comes to wood. Since I was a wee lad, my father and extended family have always warmed homes with wood stoves. I used to help my family cut, stack, and load wood. I rather enjoy it actually. It’s a good work out and you actually accomplish something by the end of the day.
Anyway, we worked for a few hours, then cleaned up and ate dinner. After dinner, I hung out for a while, did some interviews, caught up with old friends, and then headed up the mountain to university to meet with everyone else from the day before.
Football.
Today has not been a very good day for my teams so far. I was hoping Kentucky would beat Florida. I assumed ECU would beat NC State. I was worried about Appalachian; rightfully so, apparently. My lovely alma mater lost at home today, 38-35. It was the first home loss since 2002, my freshman year. Thirty games in a row. It was the longest streak in college football.
You can read about some of it here: Go ASU
It was an ok game. ASU was losing big in the first half, but our defense stepped up and was able to hold them under control for most of the second half. We drove down the field late in the game, scored, forced them to punt after a three and out, and we got the ball back with 1:25 left in the game, down by three points. The punt return was called back because of a penalty. If it wasn’t for the penalty, we would have been about thirty yards from scoring, but because of it, we got the ball on our own 35. We moved the ball pretty well for not having any timeouts left, but an inability to get out of bounds and not getting a first down forced us into one last play, 4th and 11, with the clock running with about 12 seconds left in the game. Edwards, our QB, tried to pass it, then took off running and was forced out of bounds within feet of picking up the first down. The clock had 1.1 seconds left. We turned the ball over on downs.
It was a heart breaker. So close to being able to kick a field goal and tie the game, but if you look at it that way, then I can also look at two passes during the game that were dropped that would have resulted in touchdowns, instead of field goals.
I guess all I can say is “oh well”. We had to lose sometime, right? It was a lot of fun though, being over at a friends house watching it on his satellite, eating Bojangles.
Here is a game recap: ESPN
Am I correct when I say that Appalachian State (Boone, NC) now has the longest home winning streak in Division I football?
Since USC lost at home this weekend, breaking their 35 game win streak, I believe App was second with 30 straight home wins.
I could be wrong. I’m not finding much on the internets.
I found this: “The home winning streak, which dates back to the beginning of the 2003 season, is the nation’s longest in NCAA Division I FCS (Football Championship Subdivision – formerly Division I-AA) and the second-longest in all of Division I, behind only USC’s 35-game winning streak at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. “
So, yay?
On another note, I wish Time Warner Cable would carry MASN. I guess they like pissing people off.
